City hospital reportedly demands UGX. 450 million in hospital bills to release tycoon Tom Kaaya’s body

KAMPALA — TMR International Hospital in Naalya has reportedly demanded for over UGX. 450 million in hospital before releasing the body of city businessman Tom Kaaya.

The businessman, Kaaya died on Monday evening from the Naalya based hospital.

A family member confirmed his death, and said the hospital had billed them to a tune of UGX. 450 million.

“It true he is dead. And we have to clear more than UGX 450 million in Hospital bills, a family member was quoted by SoftPower News.

Several families whose relatives have succumbed to Covid-19 have failed to pick their bodies from private facilities because of exorbitant treatment charges.

In some incidents, the facilities have also held hostage patients for failure to clear their medical bills.

TMR is an upcoming health facilities located in Naalya Housing Estate in Kira Municipality and it has has been on spot for making a kill out of desperate Covid-19 patients.

TMR International Hospital was recently criticized for withholding a body of a New vision staff who succumbed to the viral respiratory disease over a bill of UGX. 76 million.

TMR also faced a social media backslash for charging the family of
Victoria Mbabazi Ndyaguma who passed away after she had just delivered a baby girl.

The hospital charged the family over UGX 70 million with some reports putting the figure at UGX. 120m.

Meanwhile, the city businessman, Tom Kaaya Kigonya was the proprieter of Nana Hostel, the tallest building on Sir Apollo Kaggwa Road, which stands out for its ambiance.

Kaya sunk upto UGX. 17billiom into the 450room hostel.

He reportedly owned a chain of hospitals and a fleet of taxis named Kaki Investment.
