Ugandan Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Betty Amongi welcomed the warm social media reception given to the expected Afghan refugees by Ugandan men. She has however thrown her worry the possibility of these being stingy.
“I have seen our Ugandan men praying for safe landing of Afghanistan refugees, and sharing various photos of ladies,” Amongi tweeted.
“They are promising total support and cooperation with government this time on this project! hope it’snot Stingy men Association,” she added.
Uganda is expected to host some Afghanistan refugees in response to the call by the international community for countries to help take over them. This follows the Taliban take over of the country earlier this week which has forced thousands to flee the Afghanistan.
Uganda is set to temporarily host 2000 Afghanistan refugees which will anytime be landing into the country.
However the Foreign ministry in it’s press releases yesterday said that discussions are still ongoing about the matter.
“Discussions on the issue of Uganda assisting in the likely event of the need to temporarily host some of the Afghans and international citizens are still ongoing,” thier press release read in part.
