Ninety officers of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), including 10 women, gather for a group photo after successfully completing the Grade III Staff Course at the Junior Staff College in Jinja.

JINJA, Uganda — Ninety Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) officers, including 10 women, have completed the Grade III Staff Course at the Junior Staff College (JSC) in Gaddafi Barracks, officials announced.

The graduates, drawn from various UPDF units, were praised by Maj. Gen. James Kinalwa, Joint Staff – Human Resource Management, as a “vital investment” in the force’s professional growth.

“We have trained and imparted competencies to officers who serve as tactical-level commanders. This will greatly contribute to the development and continuity of the Force,” Kinalwa said at the graduation ceremony. He emphasized that training is a long-term investment in human capital, essential for building a capable, dependable and effective military.

Kinalwa urged the graduates to apply their new skills with confidence, adaptability, moral courage and critical thinking. He also encouraged them to share their knowledge, highlighting teamwork as a core UPDF principle.

Brig. Gen. Chris Ogwal, Commandant of the Junior Staff College, commended the 37th intake for their preparedness for tactical command roles and encouraged them to train their subordinates.

Lt. Col. Isaac Musamali was recognized for exemplary leadership, and Maj. Christian Agaba was named the best all-around student.

The ceremony was attended by several senior officers, including Brig. Gen. Michael Ssozi Ssesanga, Commandant of the Non-Commissioned Officers Academy; Brig. Gen. Wakayinja, Cantonment Commander Magamaga; Col. Chris Kyanku, Commandant of the College of Logistics and Engineering; and Col. Susan Mwanga, Commandant of the Legal Training Centre.

Also present were Senior Superintendent of Prisons Deogratious Ogwangpit, Regional Prisons Commander, and Senior Superintendent of Police Muzira, representing the Regional Police Commander.
