KOLOLO– Mrs. Getrude Njuba widow to the late Sam Kalega Njuba , retired UPDF and Presidential Advisor on Land Matters, has called upon elites especially those from Legal fraternity to actively engage in country’s politics as other groups of people have done.

“I can see all of you , there are many lawyers around, but in most cases people who can hold the country together always run away from politics. if you run away , the power will be in the hands of hooligans and don’t expect the rule of law to be followed if it’s the hooligans with power.” Remarked Njuba at the 16th Rule of Law Week at the Uganda Law Society (ULS) headquarters in Kololo

At the same event held in honor of her late husband, Sam Njuba one of the past leaders of ULS, Getrude pointed out that it’s unfortunate but it’s true that , Uganda’s 1995 constitution gives much power to politicians to be in charge of all other groups of people, that if the decent members of the society are not willing to join politics, the other group will continue dominating the space.
“Please don’t think that politics is a dirty game , it’s dirty coz we allow dirty people to go there, if clean people go there , it will be a clean game.”
“Sometimes we forget this group of people in the board room (lawyers and law students), I look at what is happening at the streets and wonder ,what is going on , are we going to hand over power to this group of people? When they talk we say are these the ones we are going to hand over the nation? Whenever i remember that, I say let us hang around a bit.” She further added
On the other hand, she brought back the good memories with her late husband way back from their youthful days, upto the time of demise.
Victoria Nantege Njuba, the daughter to the late Sam Njuba and Getrude Njuba described their late dad as a family man , strong advocate for the rule of law who did whatever is possible to raise his children into responsible citizens.

At the same event, Njuba handed over the keys of the new Mercedes Benz to Advocate Ronald T Harry Muhwezi, the Winner of the ULS Tech fest which happened recently at Speke Resort Munyonyo. Retired High Court Judge Henry Peter Adonyo was honored with a life time Achievement Award.
Among other groups awarded,
was the Uganda Court Reporters Association (UCRA) which was represented by Deborah Namamonde a journalist.
