The countdown to the inaugural FIFA Women’s Champions Cup™ is on, with the winner of the CAF Women’s Champions League set to represent Africa on the global stage.
The maiden edition of the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup kicks off on 8 October 2025 in Wuhan, China PR, bringing together the top women’s clubs from every continent to compete for the first global crown in women’s club football.
Africa’s representative will come from the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League, which will determine its champion in November. That side will then enter the competition in Round 2, where they will face the winner of the opening clash between Wuhan Jiangda WFC (AFC champions) and Auckland United FC (OFC champions).
So far, three African clubs have booked their place in this year’s CAF Women’s Champions League finals: These include; Gaborone United (COSAFA), USFAS Bamako (WAFU A) and ASEC Mimosas (WAFU B).
The remaining two regional qualifiers – CECAFA and UNAF – are currently underway to determine the other contenders.
The CAF champion will not only lift continental silverware but also carry Africa’s hopes at the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup, where giants like Arsenal WFC (UEFA champions) and Gotham FC (Concacaf champions) are already lined up for the knockout rounds.
The final stage of the tournament, featuring the semi-finals, third-place playoff and final, will be staged between 28 January and 1 February 2026 at a centralised venue to be announced.
For African women’s football, this is a historic moment – the chance to showcase the continent’s talent against the very best in the world and inspire the next generation of players.
