Kampala – The Chairperson of Council for Abavandimwe chaired by Mr. Frank Gashumba, has issued a public vote of thanks to leaders and members of the organization for their support towards President Yoweri Museveni’s re-election campaign in the 2026 general elections.

In a statement dated May 13, 2026, Gashumba stated that, the council endorsed President Museveni as its presidential candidate during a meeting held at Serena Hotel on August 15, 2025. That the endorsement followed what he described as an executive intervention by Museveni on citizenship-related concerns affecting members of the community.
“We took that decision because President Museveni issued an Executive order to solve the problem of violation of our citizenship rights,” Gashumba said
He added that before the intervention, members of the community had allegedly faced challenges including discrimination, mistreatment, and statelessness despite seeking help from different government offices.
Gashumba pointed out that following the endorsement, members of the council actively participated in mobilization activities for Museveni’s campaign, including escorting him for nomination, erecting billboards, and conducting radio and television endorsements.
“We showed up at all Presidential rallies, and deployed all tools of mobilization to get all our people to vote for Candidate Museveni,” the statement read.
The council chairman further congratulated President Museveni upon what he described as a landslide victory of 71 percent in the elections.
Gashumba also commended Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the UPDF, and other security agencies for what he called ensuring peaceful elections across the country.
“We thank Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba (UPDF and other security agencies) for ensuring that the last concluded general elections were the most peaceful in the history of Uganda,” he said.
He also appreciated supporters who attended President Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony at Kololo on May 12, 2026.
Gashumba concluded with a message of gratitude to all members and leaders of the Council for Abavandimwe for their continued support and unity.
