Airtel Uganda sent the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) a check for Ugx. 34.8 billion, or 2% of the company’s annual gross income for the year ending in 2023, to help with the development of the nation’s communication infrastructure. The news was released at a press conference that took place at the UCC offices.

This substantial contribution complies with the requirements of the network’s license and the Communications Act, which require telecom operators to set aside 2% of their yearly gross revenue to fund the nation’s rural communications infrastructure development.

George William Nyombi Thembo, Executive Director of UCC, acknowledged Airtel’s contribution to the telecom industry and stated, “We are gathered here today to recognize and support Airtel Uganda’s contribution.” In Uganda, Airtel has been a driving force and an inspiration for communication development. I want to express my sincere gratitude to Airtel for giving the Uganda Communications Commission Ugx. 34.8 billion in shillings, or 2% of its yearly gross earnings.

This emphasizes how important it is to guarantee that our nation’s underprivileged population has access to essential communication services. This contribution will surely play a significant role in encouraging inclusive growth involvement throughout Uganda and closing the digital divide,” he continued.

Manoj Murali, the managing director of Airtel Uganda, reiterated the network’s dedication to offering dependable communication services in the nation.

“Airtel Uganda is deeply committed to Uganda’s development,” the speaker declared. Our involvement in the licencing process and provision of dependable communication services throughout Uganda via our 100% 4G network serve as testaments to our dedication. We take this action because it is our responsibility as technology enablers to link people and businesses to opportunities, therefore helping Uganda realize its full potential. We take great pride in meeting this mandate above and beyond.

He went on, saying, “The UCC is essential to the development of a robust telecom industry that enables Ugandans in our globally interconnected society. We appreciate your ongoing supervision and assistance in enhancing the sector’s equity, accessibility, and long-term viability.

The Uganda Communications Commission will use Airtel Uganda’s 34.8 billion contribution to help the improvement and growth of rural communications infrastructure, particularly in underserved areas. In order to propel digital transformation and provide communities throughout Uganda with dependable and superior communication services, Airtel Uganda continues to be dedicated to its goal through strategic alliances and cooperative efforts with governmental organizations, oversight bodies, and other stakeholders.
