KAMPALA, Uganda — Iran is not seeking conflict with its neighbors but is defending its territory against American and Israeli aggression, the Iranian ambassador to Uganda said Friday.
Ambassador Majid Saffar made the remarks following Juma prayers at the National Mosque in Old Kampala. Addressing a large congregation, Saffar said the ongoing conflict resulted from conspiracies led by the United States and Israel under the pretext of preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
Prior to the war, we were fully aware that Americans and Israelis have no respect for any given agreement, international laws, and treaties, Saffar said. He noted that despite diplomatic efforts, bombardment raids against Iran began in June 2025.
The ambassador accused opposing forces of violating international law by targeting civilian infrastructure, including schools, hospitals and bridges. He also confirmed that the conflict has claimed the lives of high-ranking Iranian officials, including Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who Saffar said was killed in his office.
Saffar told the congregation that the people of Iran remain resilient and prepared to defend their land. He said the war would end only on Iran’s terms and linked regional peace to the establishment of a Palestinian state.
Following the prayers, Saffar and his delegation met with the Mufti of Uganda, Shaban Ramadan Mubaje. During the meeting, Saffar clarified that Iran is not targeting Arab nations but rather military bases within those countries that are being used to launch attacks against Iran.
Mubaje expressed concern over the loss of life and called for an end to the violence.
Saffar concluded his visit by appearing on Radio Bilal FM to provide further updates on the Middle East situation. He also expressed hope for future educational cooperation between Iran and Uganda once the conflict subsides.
