MultiChoice Uganda bows to public demand, lunches Baba TV on GOtv

JINJA —MultiChoice Uganda has bowed to overwhelming public demand and launched Baba Television on its popular GOtv platform.

State Minister for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs Kabuye Kyofatogabye presided the launch ceremony held at Bax Hotel in Jinja on Thursday, November 25.

The channel which first went live on GOtv on 1st November 2021, highlights current affairs, entertainment and national news.

The station broadcasts mainly in three languages interchangeably with varying percentages as follows; Lusoga at 50%, Luganda at 40% and English at 10%.

While addressing the press at the launch and handover, Joan Semanda, the Head of Public Relations and Communications, MultiChoice Uganda hailed Ugandans for embracing MultiChoice platforms for their source of information, and entertainment.

“I would like to appreciate Ugandans for their continuous support and loyalty to both the GOtv and DStv platforms. We vowed to offer and give our clients quality entertainment ranging from unbeatable football, dramas, news both international and local, to mention but a few.”

Ssemanda noted that the addition of Baba TV will positively impact not just the television station but Ugandans seeing as home-grown content will have a platform.

“Ugandans have for long told their stories through the lenses of others. With the initiative MultiChoice Uganda has taken to amplify telling the African story, we believe that Ugandans will also enjoy their piece of the pie in bringing to life stories made and told authentically for them.”

Kampala Minister, Kabuye Kyofatogabye who represented Presidency Minister Milly Babalanda lauded Baba Television for impactful programming in the last five years of its existence.

He challenged Baba Television to continue impacting lives like they have done in the past five years.

Also present at the handover and launch was Issabalagira wa Busoga Kakayire who relayed a warm welcome to the MultiChoice team on behalf of the State and the Kyabazinga.

He went ahead to appreciate MultiChoice for their interest in powering Busoga Kingdom with cable connections that in turn enable the people of Busoga to stay informed of what is happening world – over.

“We are glad to see that MultiChoice Uganda has continuously connected the people of Busoga and Uganda with both DStv and GOtv. These connections have enabled us all stay up to date with the local and world’s current affairs which is an added advantage” he said.

“The lockdown showed us all how important television was. We all received updates off our screens, our children studied from TV and the government was able to communicate to us through broadcasts on TV and other platforms. It is therefore key that we provide Ugandans and the people of Busoga with quality and yet affordable TV packages that will meet the growing demand for both informative, educative and entertainment content,” he added.

With the launch of Baba TV on GOtv which shows on channel 393, the station was tasked with ensuring that the content and quality is to the standard of all the channels showing on both DStv and GOtv.

Other platforms include Azam TV CH365, ZUKU CH522, Star sat CH 505, StarTimes CH235 and Free to Air decoders.

On his part, Baba Media Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Moses Balyeku reiterated the station’s promise to deliver top-notch content to its audience.

“We strongly believe that this move will enable us reach an even bigger audience, allowing listeners to access impactful content on their TV sets,” he observed.

Balyeku remarked that, “We are pleased to work with MultiChoice Uganda who continue to open doors of opportunities for partners as we together make efforts to provide an exciting experience for customers and viewers.”

“Baba Television addition will be kicked off with the collection of some of your favorite presenters and shows, therefore we encourage you all to tune in and watch,” Mr. Balyeku said.

He added: “Our cross-cutting programs are tailored to suite various age groups and different audience interests in the areas of Current affairs, News, Business, Education, Health, Agriculture, Politics, Sports, Entertainment, Lifestyle, Events, Fashion among others”.

Ranked among the three top most watched television stations in Uganda, Baba Television is a broadcasting station under MOBA Enterprises Limited, which was started in September 2017 with the objective of addressing day-to-day challenges such as the high levels of illiteracy, unemployment, poverty, and disease that are pre-dominant in the eastern region.

Baba Television is one of the fastest growing television brands and part of the Baba Media Group that also runs Baba 87.7 FM in Jinja.

Baba Television is also a leading broadcaster in Eastern Uganda but also rubbing shoulders with several other brands despite being five years old in the market.

With a commanding viewership in the Eastern and parts of the central region, BABA TV was ranked No. 1 in Eastern region in the 2019 IPSOS report.

Baba 87.7 FM in Jinja is also the leading radio station in the Eastern Region.
