His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, has urged politicians to be God-conscious in all their civic engagements and community activities.

The Mufti made the remarks during a thanksgiving (Shukr) ceremony organized by the family of the late Haj Bagye of Kavule Village, Buwungu Subcounty, in Bugiri Muslim District. The event was held in honour of Hajjat Amina Nakadama, a family member who had successfully returned from performing the Hajj pilgrimage to the holy sanctuaries of Makkah and Madinah in Saudi Arabia.

In his address, the Mufti congratulated Hajjat Amina Nakadama, who is aspiring for the position of Woman Member of Parliament for Bugiri District. He encouraged her to remain exemplary and God-fearing, and cautioned her against making promises during campaigns that fall outside the legal mandate of an MP.

“We call for clean politics — not the kind that promotes immorality. Politics should not be reduced to a dirty game of lies, mudslinging, and character assassination. Such misguided mindsets do nothing to uplift society,” the Mufti noted.

He further advised Hajjat Nakadama and other Muslim politicians not to discard their Islamic identity — such as wearing the veil in public — and to avoid making unrealistic campaign promises.

“Do not promise things you know you cannot deliver. It is better to speak truthfully than to give people false hope,” he added.

Turning to the Muslim faithful gathered at the event, the Mufti encouraged them never to lose trust in Almighty Allah. He urged them to strengthen their faith and, if necessary, make bold financial decisions — even selling part of their assets such as land — to raise funds to fulfill the religious obligation of Hajj, the fifth pillar of Islam.

“Strive to live righteously and always express sincere gratitude to Allah if you wish to receive His divine rewards, favours, and blessings,” the Mufti said. He concluded by thanking the family of the late Haj Bagye for remaining united in the absence of their father and for organizing a meaningful religious event.

The function was attended by Kadhis from the neighboring Muslim districts of Jinja, Iganga, Bugiri, and Mayuge.
