Bishop Oliach Joseph Echiru, of Soroti Catholic Diocese has called upon Christians to uphold Peace, Unity and reconciliation in families as they follow in God’s ways as Jesus also urged his disciples to live in peace after his resurrection.

The Bishop made the call during Holy Mass St. Peters Catholic Church Ongongoja, in Katakwi district, where hundreds of faithful attended. Vice President Jessica Alupo who is also the woman MP Katakwi district was also in attendance.

During the service, Oliach asked the Christians to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. “Jesus as a leader of the church overcame death, which also sends us a message that we are winners, because through the resurrection, we obtained victory”, he preached.

Vice President Alupo who joined the procession and the choir in singing and dancing, thanked the population for embracing Government projects in their communities most especially the opening of roads.

She said Katakwi district, like other districts in Uganda, was going to receive One Billion shillings for road networking within the district. “Infrastructure development is one of the priorities of this government, including electricity which is going to be connected to every government facility”, she said, drawing cheers from the crowd.

She said, the PDM program is lined up with different enterprises including Poultry ,Piggery (for non muslims) Diary farming, fish, fruit growing, among others.

She said that the top priorities on the PDM program are selected to help the population fight poverty.

Alupo told the Church that as a way of fighting poverty, Government is also supporting the women, elderly and youths.

Christians supported the Church with fifty bulls in support for the construction of the parish House at St Peters Catholic Church in Ongongoja.

She said this effort showed the church that Christians are ready to support their leaders in anyway.

Alupo promised to support the construction of the parish House, especially that St.Peter’s was being upgraded to a Parish.

On a separate note, Alupo delivered from different people, including her mother for the jubilee celebrations that took place in Aketa Primary school in December last year.

The LC5 Chairperson Geofrey Omolo asked residents to embrace Government projects.

LCIII Ongongoja sub county William Omeke asked the office of the Vice President and other politicians to come in and support their association of the LCIIIs which was recently formed.

Omeke also pleaded with the Vice President to lobby for the security roads to ease foot and motorised patrols to minimise cattle thefts.
