Bulange, Mengo, the headquarters of Buganda Kingdom, will remain a Covid-19 vaccination centre from Monday to Friday following an overwhelming turn-out, leaders have announced.

Uganda Breweries in partnership with Buganda Kingdom, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), Safe Boda, Ministry of Health and other partners on Saturday and Sunday conducted a vaccination exercise at Bulange, which drew crowds, with more than 7,000 people inoculated on the first day alone.

On Sunday, the second day of the vaccination exercise, the Deputy Katikkiro, Owek. Prof.Twaha Kawaase, announced that on request of the partners, the vaccination exercise will continue daily, between Monday and Friday every week.

Dr. Richard Kabanda, a commissioner at the Health ministry, during the vaccination exercise at Bulange on Sunday, 07 November 2021, said their target is to vaccinate six million Ugandans by January when the President will fully reopen the economy.

The decision came after long queues dominated the two-day event. The queues started building up from the main gate of Bulange, the seat of the Buganda Kingdom, where several mobile vaccination camps were stationed, as early as 7 a.m and increasingly became longer snaking through Bulange way and part of Kabaka Anjagala Road.

The site has various types of vaccines, among them, Sinovac, which has been reserved for teachers who are getting their second jab, AstraZeneca and Pfizer. Uganda has in recent months received a cocktail of vaccines that are being used across the country to beat the target of at least 4.8 million people to pave way for the reopening of the economy.
