KAMPALA ā More than 432,000 candidates across Uganda are holding their collective breath as the Uganda National Examinations Board prepares to release the 2025 Uganda Certificate of Education results today.
The Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni, is scheduled to officially unveil the performance data at 11 a.m. at State House, Nakasero. This yearās results are especially significant as they represent the second cohort of students assessed under the new competency-based curriculum, which integrates continuous assessment scores from schools with final examination performance.
A morning of high stakes
For students like those at schools in Kampala and beyond, the morning has been defined by nervous pacing and frequent refreshes of mobile phones. Candidates can access their individual results by sending their index number via SMS to 6600, a service that traditionally becomes active immediately after the ministerās address.
UNEB officials met with the education minister on Wednesday for a final briefing on the performance trends. While the board has remained tight-lipped about the specific outcomes, the results will provide a critical look at how learners have adapted to the practical and skill-based focus of the new curriculum.
Financial hurdles for some
Despite the excitement, a shadow of uncertainty hangs over some candidates. UNEB issued a stern warning this week to examination centres with outstanding financial balances. Schools that have not cleared their invoices on the e-registration portal may find their results blocked, potentially leaving students and parents in a difficult position as they seek to plan for A-Level or vocational transitions.
The 2025 UCE cycle saw a 12.1 percent increase in candidature compared to the previous year, with girls making up approximately 51.5 percent of the total learners who sat for the exams.
