NAMUGONGO – – The Northern Uganda Cluster which the organizers of this year’s Martyrs Day celebrations at Anglican side, have revealed that they have finalized most of the activities for the successful mass and pre-events.

“The Chief Guest on Martyrs day here will be the head of State , President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the main preacher in the service which is going to be led by the Archbishop Kaziimba Mugalu will be Rt Rev Henry Luke Orombi the retired Archbishop for Church of Uganda.” Remarked Rt Rev. Godfrey Loum, Chairman of the Northern Cluster while addressing a press conference at Namugongo on Wednesday.
He also revealed that this year’s budget for the whole event will be 2.2 Billion shillings of which they have already raised some money through various fundraisings and the government has also promised to contribute towards this budget.
“There are some things that have not been put in place yet because they require to be paid first, we are happy that the government has already provided us with security and for us our role has remained to demarcate where the various groups will be hosted.”
The Archbishop noted that as far as the preparations are concerned, Pilgrims have started coming peacefully and the situation is under control.
“As far as major incidents are concerned we have not received any problem, as you know many have arrived with swollen feet but they are treated and others given foot massage.”
The Pilgrims have been urged to come well prepared with their essential needs including food or funds to feed themselves during their stay at Namugongo.
Currently Special Forces Command (SFC), the group in charge of President Museveni’s security has taken over security of the place being assisted with other security agencies.
The organizing Cluster comprises of Dioceses from Northern Uganda, Lango, West Lango, Madi-West Nile, Kitgum, and Nebbi.
