Quality Chemicals Uganda Ltd founder Emmanuel Katongole has been installed at the new Chancellor for Entebbe based Nkumba University.
Katongole, who is also the chairman of the Uganda National Oil Company takes over from another businessman, Gordon Wavamuno who served in that capacity for the last nine years-three terms in office.
The tycoon who becomes the fifth chancellor at the education institution has since called on government to transform the education system to make grandaunts job creators instead of seekers.
“The way we frame our education system has to change, it’s no longer training people who don’t know and telling them what it is, it is no longer the teaching like a prophet, those days are long gone. Education systems should never be factories to job seekers, they are supposed to be factories that make job makers” he said.
Katongole made the remarks on Wednesday during the 23rd Nkumba University commencement lecture where he was installed as the new chancellor for the university as it prepares for the 23rd graduation ceremony on Saturday.
The commencement lecture speaker Mr. Ambrose Kibuuka said the Covid-19 experience ought to have been a great learning opportunity for universities to rapidly transform into truly learning institutions as vanguards of research.
