Luzira Court Grade one Magistrate Sheilah Gloria Atim has granted bail to Hon. Miria Matembe, the former Minister of Ethics and integrity who was remanded to Luzira Prison on charges of Sectarianism.

Matembe has been released on a non cash bail of 3 million shillings, well as each of her sureties has signed a 2 million shillings non cash bond.
Before granting Matembe bail, the trial Magistrate ruled that before coming up with her decision, she considered the submissions of both the applicant and the Prosecution side.
Her worship Atim ruled that Matembe is of advanced age, her ill health, having a fixed place of abode within Court’s jurisdiction and having substantial sureties are the reasons why she has been pleased to release her pending hearing of her case.
The matter has been adjourned to 19th July 2026, for mention.
Prosecution contends that in the month of June 2026 in Nakawa Division, Kampala District through DK Television, Matembe uttered statements, to wit, that all tax payers money is being spent on Banyankore Women Ministers which statements are likely to promote hostility, hatred or ill will against members of Banyankore tribe.
