Kampala– Law Development Center (LDC) Court Grade one Magistrate Ivan Maloba, has granted bail to Arnold Anthony Mukose, a journalist with an online Television cash bail of five million shillings.

All his sureties have been ordered to sign a non cash bond of 50 million shillings each.
The decision followed the evaluation by Court that all the sureties presented by Mukose are substantial and will ensure that he turns up to court wherever he is required to do so.
Uganda Journalist Association (UJA) and other journalists have asked court to revise the cash bail to an affordable amount because five million shillings is too much.
The case has been adjourned to May 18, 2026, for hearing.
Mukose is charged with publishing false and distressing news regarding the alleged death of First Lady Janet Kataha Museveni. He had earlier been remanded to Luzira Prison.
Mukose was arrested over a month ago on his way from Metro FM Radio at Martin Road Kampala Central. Later on, a search was conducted at his home in Lukuli-Nanganda, detainined him at Old Kampala Police Division and later produced in Court.
The prosecution, led by Rachel Namutebi, told court that between the 26th and 29th of March, Mukose and others still at large knowingly and unlawfully published false information on the Digital Talk platform, claiming that the First Lady had died.
