Court halts UPC’s Delegates Conference

KAMPALA– High Court in Kampala has issued an order halting Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) untill the main when the main application challenging the Electoral process is fully heard and disposed off.

“For the above reasons. I find that the applicant has proved there exist exceptional circumstances for the grant of this application. Accordingly, this application is hereby granted with the following orders.”

Secondly , UPC, all it’s agents. servants. or any one acting under their authority from convening either by physical or virtual extra-ordinary delegates conference scheduled for 2610712025 until the hearing of Miscellaneous Application 0573-2025

Court also considered the fact that, the application was filed without inordinate delay considering the circumstances that led to the call of the delegates’ conference. “It is my tinding that the applicant has proved that this application has not been brought in bad faith.”

This application was filed in court, Joseph Othieno (Applicant ) filed an application against Uganda People’s Congress and Jimmy Akena seeking seeking for orders that an interim order be issued restraining the respondents, their agents from convening the delegates conferences scheduled for 26th July 2025.

Counsel for the applicant Mr. Katunguka Rodgers from M/s Jude Byamukama & Co. Advocates submitted that the applicants believe that there is a real threat since the delegates conference is on 26/0712025.

Counsel further stated that the delegates’ conference would not proceed as planned considering that the inspector General of police had advised them to re-schedule the said conference as they were unable to provide the required security.

Counsel also contended that despite that advise the 2nd respondent has gone ahead and informed the Chairperson Uganda Electoral Commission that the delegates conference will be held virtually.
