Kampala– The High Court Criminal Division in Kampala has directed the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to fully disclose all evidence it intends to rely on in the ongoing treason case against Col (Rtd) Dr. Kiiza Besigye and his co-accused.

The matter came up before Justice Emmanuel Baguma in a fully packed courtroom amid tight security deployment. The accused persons were escorted to court under heavy guard as proceedings got underway.
During the session, both the defence and the prosecution traded accusations over alleged delays in the progress of the case. State prosecutors informed the court that partial disclosure of evidence had already been made to the defence.
However, defence counsel Erias Lukwago argued that the prosecution had failed to comply with earlier court timelines regarding full disclosure, thereby affecting preparations for trial.
In response, Justice Baguma issued fresh directives ordering the DPP to ensure complete disclosure of all intended evidence to the defence by March 3. The case will return to court on March 12 for further scheduling.
According to the prosecution, Dr. Besigye, 67, Hajji Obeid Lutale, 65, Captain Denis Oola, 48, and others still at large allegedly contrived a plot between 2023 and November 2024 to overthrow the Government of Uganda by force of arms.
The prosecution contends that the alleged acts were carried out in various locations, including Geneva (Switzerland), Athens (Greece), Nairobi (Kenya), and Kampala (Uganda), and involved expressions and overt acts in furtherance of the purported plot.
The accused persons are currently on remand at Luzira Prison.
