The Uganda Cranes suffered a disheartening 2-0 loss to South Africa in their AFCON 2025 qualifiers match at Namboole Stadium on Friday. However, captain Khalid Aucho has called on fans not to lose hope, promising a strong comeback in their upcoming match against Congo.

Speaking to journalists, Aucho acknowledged that the team’s performance against South Africa was underwhelming. “The loss was a wake-up call for all of us. We realized we didn’t take the game seriously, and it’s a lesson learned,” he said. “Everyone is committed to working hard to ensure a better performance and get results.”

Despite the disappointing outcome, Aucho expressed gratitude to the fans for their unwavering support. “To all our fans, please don’t lose hope. We’ll make things right and bring you joy once again. We appreciate your loyalty and love your support.”

The loss was a surprise to many, especially after the Cranes had already secured qualification for AFCON 2025 in Morocco with one game remaining. Fans had filled the stadium, hoping to celebrate this achievement with the team, but the South African team dampened the festivities.

Aucho’s words aim to reassure fans that the team is committed to redemption. With their next match against Congo just around the corner, the Cranes are determined to bounce back stronger.

“We love our fans, and we appreciate their support. We’ll come back stronger and make them proud,” Aucho promised.

The Uganda Cranes will face Congo in their next AFCON 2025 qualifiers match, seeking to end their campaign on a high note.
