KAMPALA — Airtel Uganda has come under fire from its customers after changing the terms of its popular data sharing services —Tugabane.
The telecom firm’s existing data sharing services rewards have been altered —axing Tugabane data options on daily data bundles, Freaky Friday and Freaky Holiday bundles.
“Kindly, be informed that effective Wednesday 21st July, 2021, the Tugabane service will no longer be available on Freaky Friday, Freaky Holiday and Daily Data Bundles,” Airtel Uganda said in a statement.
Hundreds of customers have flocked to complain, using the both Twitter and WhatsApp sites to make their views known.
“I think very soon we shall be boycotting this network. Just wait for a technical blow. I personally load huge data bundles such that i can share with my friends but now , I’m going to opt for Lycamobile,” one of the customers Keys Didi said on Twitter.
Keys added:” But you people are not serious , I’ve been seeing the gift option and haven’t been using it for reasons.
Your basically forcing us to abide by the rules yet the customer has to be the value of entity of the business. Once my dependents can’t access the data bundle I’ll switch”
Another Twitter user Okwir Issachar said:
All you think is business not the society. We are your clients, we make you what you are, and we own you… people should realize we have the we to act, boycott this ungrateful ness, change it for the better
Effects of monopoly”.
“You have failed us how can you do something like this during this period lemi throw your ki simcard and try @africellUG since they have good data prices they value us and our money” another user Esther Nankinga said.
Airtel Uganda says other bundles can be shared on Tugabane except for Freakyfriday, freaky holiday, and the daily bundles this however, is proving to be a PR disaster.
In April 2015, Airtel Uganda launched Tugabane to help its customers use oneline to surf the internet on their smartphones.
Airtel innovation lets people share data in such a way that one mobile data subscriber can add up to four other mobile numbers to surf from the same bundle regardless of where these mobile numbers are in the country and internet devices the other individuals have.

The more reason you should choose MTN. We have Data Me2u on *160*6#Yes option 2. You can share data from as low as 5MB to 2000MB. You should have more than 100MB and you can only share Weekly, Monthly, and Quarterly data bundles. The shared bundle is valid for 7 days. MTNGloria https://t.co/qdfCXbrYEw
