The Ministry of Education and Sports is hopeful that majority of the teachers will return to schools when they reopen in January next year.

Dr. Dennis Mugimba, the Ministry’s Spokesperson says according to the assessments and analyses done, only few teachers might fail to report back which won’t affect the running of schools.

Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) survey report revealed that more teachers in private schools did not return to schools compared to those in Government schools during the last reopening of the schools.

According to the report, whereas all teachers in Government schools returned, at least 8 percent of those in private schools at Primary level and 3% at secondary level did not return.

Mugimba however emphasizes that unvaccinated teachers won’t be allowed in classes though 70 percent of them have got their first jabs and 29% are fully vaccinated.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Education and Sports Janet Museveni is expected to meet all stakeholders in the education sector next Tuesday and it’s in this meeting that she will to announce the new calendar for the schools reopening.
