KAMPALA, June 24, 2026 — The Education Service Commission (ESC) has released the shortlist of candidates selected for oral interviews for the positions of Education Officer, Assistant Education Officer, and non-teaching staff in government seed schools across the Busoga region.
According to a notice issued by Commission Secretary Asuman Lukwago, the recruitment exercise falls under Addendum to Advert No. 3/2025, with interviews scheduled to run from June 29 to July 3, 2026, at Jinja Senior Secondary School in Jinja City, beginning at 8 a.m. each day.
The commission said the shortlist comprises candidates who met the requirements set out when the positions were advertised, and urged shortlisted applicants to carefully review all accompanying instructions before appearing for their interviews.
The recruitment drive targets staffing positions in government UGIFT seed schools across Busoga and is part of broader efforts to strengthen staffing levels in the education sector. Schools covered under this shortlist include Wanyange Seed Secondary School, Kasambira Seed Secondary School, Idudi Seed Secondary School, Gumpi Seed Secondary School, and Irundu Seed Secondary School.
The exercise is the latest in a wave of ESC recruitment activity across Uganda’s seed school network in recent weeks. Earlier this month, the commission confirmed several of the same schools already have substantive heads in place — Wanyange Seed Secondary School in Jinja City is currently headed by Nangobi Teddy, Kasambira Seed Secondary School in Kamuli District by Sembatya Ibrahim, Idudi Seed Secondary School in Bugweri District by Menya Isma, Gumpi Seed Secondary School in Buyende District by Gasiwo Moses Magoola, and Irundu Seed Secondary School, also in Buyende District, by Wansungizi Stephen — appointments made following interviews conducted on May 14 and 15, 2026 under Internal Advert No. 5/2025 and its addendum.
The Busoga shortlist also follows a separate confirmation exercise earlier in June, in which the commission confirmed 386 teaching and non-teaching personnel in service, approved study leave for six education workers, and authorised the retirement of one officer on medical grounds, during its Fifth Full Commission Meeting of 2026. That exercise covered staff in government-aided secondary schools and educational institutions spanning dozens of districts, including some of Uganda’s most prominent schools such as King’s College Budo, Gayaza High School, Trinity College Nabbingo, Namilyango College, Tororo Girls’ School, Gulu High School, and St. Joseph’s College Layibi, alongside numerous seed schools.
Confirmation in service marks the completion of an officer’s probation period and grants substantive appointment status, with greater job security and access to benefits tied to permanent and pensionable service. Commission notices for both exercises were signed by Mohammed Kaaya, Acting Secretary of the Education Service Commission.
The Education Service Commission is constitutionally mandated to recruit and manage personnel within Uganda’s education service, and has in recent years overseen large-scale recruitment drives aimed at addressing staffing gaps in newly established government schools and expanding access to quality education.
Candidates who succeed at the Busoga oral interview stage will proceed to the final phases of recruitment, including formal appointment and deployment, subject to verification of academic credentials and other statutory requirements
