Peter ojedde, Executive Director of the Uganda National Cultural Center (UNCC), applauded Alliance Française Kampala and Goethe-Zentrum Kampala for having accepted to work with UNCC especially in hosting of this memorable exhibition.

“Ethics of learning, wherever you talk about this topic there going to be lots of debate. Most interesting one is that, many call it loaning, others restitution, it’s where the debate comes from.”

He therefore called upon all Ugandans participating to pick interest in and educative discussion about Ethics of loaning.

“As UNCC, we forward to continue working with Franco-German Fund and Alliance Francaise through our this journey.”

Loïc Boivin the Director of Alliance Française, promised participants that the exhibition will have a special experience involving fantastic music as well as Virtual Reality Experience.

“We would like to welcome you to the exhibition dedicated on ethics of loaning, we thank the management of Nommo Gallery and Uganda Museum for the support, because without it, the exhibition wouldn’t have been possible.”

Sheila Akwany, the Director of Goethe-Zentrum Kampala, on behalf of the organizers, promised that they will ensure that they break down the complexity into ‘Ethics of loaning’ into simpler information that can be easily understood by everyone.

“It would be a disservice to also not speak about the dynamics of power,” Akwany said. “When you say some things were donated, perhaps to a priest from an African society or to a person who didn’t know the value of that object, then the dynamic of ethics becomes very different.”

It’s from that background that she insisted that restitution conversation must not be sanitized

The exhibition organized by, Alliance Française Kampala and Goethe-Zentrum Kampala, will be running from 3rd October to 24th October 2025 under a theme: “Strengthening the Discourse on Restitution in Uganda”

It is expected to spark critical conversations on restitution ethics, empower Ugandan audiences with knowledge, and contribute to global heritage debates through a Franco-German-Ugandan collaboration.

The Exhibition will involve Panel discussions and presentations with scholars and Curators, Large format formats of restituted Artefacts and Film Screening.
