
KAMPALA, Uganda — The Uganda Police Force’s Directorate of Traffic & Road Safety announced temporary traffic adjustments in and around Kampala and Entebbe to accommodate the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2025). The changes aim to facilitate the safe and smooth movement of teams, officials and guests while minimizing congestion and ensuring public safety.
When do the changes take effect?
Traffic diversions, if needed, will be implemented from 12:00 PM on match days, especially during ongoing matches at Namboole Stadium.
Which areas will be affected?
Affected areas include main routes, accommodation locations, training sites, game hosting stadiums and specific diversion points.
What are the main routes impacted?
The primary routes affected are the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway, Northern Bypass and Bwaise Interchange.

- Kubiri Roundabout – Mulago Traffic Lights – Yusuf Lule Road
- Kira Road Police Station – Bukoto Road
- Kalerwe Interchange – Kisasi Roundabout
- Nalya Interchange – Namboole Interchange (for access to Mandela National Stadium Annex Namboole)
- Busega Roundabout – Natete Traffic Lights – Kabusu Traffic Lights (for access to Wankulukuku Stadium)
- Mulago Traffic Lights – Wandegeya Traffic Lights – Makerere Hill Road – Nakulabye Traffic Lights – Balintuma Road (for access to Kadiba Stadium Mengo)
- Jinja Road Traffic Lights (Punjani) – Jinja Road – Kyambogo Junction & Ministry of Works (for access to Kyambogo University Playground)
What are the key diversions and cutoff points?
- All trucks will be diverted at Kalerwe Interchange to Gayaza-Kalagi-Mukono, and from Mukono-Kalagi-Gayaza to Kalerwe Interchange.
- All vehicles will be diverted at Naalya Interchange to face Kyaliwajjala-Ssonde-Seeta, and from Seeta to face Ssonde-Namugongo-Kyaliwajjala-Nalya Interchange.
- All vehicles will be diverted from Bweyogerere to Jokas Hotel Kinawataka Road.
- There will be a cutoff point at Hared Petrol station on Kinawataka Road, denying access to Kireka Trading Center.
- The Kireka-Nasanga junction up to Jokas Hotel Road will be accessible only by pedestrians.
What about parking?
Parking at the Southern Playground Wing is strictly reserved for VIP-accredited vehicles only. The public is advised not to drive to this area, as access will be denied without a VIP sticker, and should make alternative parking arrangements elsewhere. VIPs must clearly display their stickers.
What is the police presence like?
Traffic Police will be heavily deployed along all designated routes to ensure safety and smooth movement. Lead vehicles will accompany convoys for secure and uninterrupted transit.
What is the public advised to do?
Motorists and road users are urged to comply with directives from traffic officers, exercise discipline, patience and courtesy, and plan journeys in advance to avoid delays during peak tournament activities.
