KAMPALA, Uganda — History was made at Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) with the appointment of Felicite Nson as its new managing director, making her the first woman to lead the company. Nson takes the helm from Andrew Kilonzo, who will now serve as managing director of Kenya Breweries Limited.
Nson is a seasoned executive with over 20 years of leadership experience across Africa. Her most recent role was managing director of Guinness Ghana Plc, where she was credited with transforming the company into Diageo’s fastest-growing market on the continent. Under her leadership, the company’s revenue and operating profit saw significant increases.
Her career also includes senior positions at other major multinational companies, including MTN Cameroon and Coca-Cola West Africa.
During a ceremonial bell handover, the UBL Board Chairman, Jimmy D. Mugerwa, officially welcomed Nson. Mugerwa said Nson’s appointment is a testament to the company’s commitment to nurturing and strengthening leadership across its markets.
He also paid tribute to Kilonzo, acknowledging his crucial role in guiding UBL through its post-pandemic recovery and reinforcing its market position. Mugerwa expressed confidence that Nson would build on this legacy by deepening market penetration and fostering inclusion and diversity.
The board of directors joined Mugerwa and Kilonzo in formally welcoming Nson to her new role. The transition symbolizes a strategic move by Diageo, UBL’s parent company, to leverage its top talent across its key markets in East Africa.
