The transformation of First Insurance into Mirai General Insurance signals a forward-looking approach to insurance in Uganda, driven by new ownership and a commitment to excellence.

KAMPALA, Uganda – First Insurance Company Limited (FICO), a long-standing insurer in Uganda, has completed its transformation into Mirai General Insurance, the company announced. The rebranding marks a significant shift for the insurer as it aligns with its new parent company, Pride Global, a multinational insurance and financial services group based in Singapore.

The newly christened Mirai General Insurance, a name derived from the Japanese word for “future” or “new ray of hope,” was officially unveiled at a launch event in Kampala. Company leaders emphasized that this transformation goes beyond a name change, representing a commitment to enhanced global standards, greater innovation, and a renewed focus on customer-centric service.

Joseph Nsubuga, CEO of Mirai General Insurance, stated that the transformation signifies a move from a local to a global perspective, enabling the company to deliver insurance services that meet international benchmarks. He assured customers that while the name has changed, the dedication to trust and personalized attention, hallmarks of FICO, will continue. The backing of Pride Global, Nsubuga added, provides a stronger platform for growth, innovation, and the development of superior insurance solutions tailored to evolving risks.

Customers of the former First Insurance Company can anticipate positive changes as part of this transformation. Mirai General Insurance has pledged improved service delivery, a broader selection of insurance products, and more efficient processes for claims and customer support. The company plans to invest further in technology and talent to uphold its principles of integrity, transparency, and service excellence.

Key elements of the transformation include the rollout of a more user-friendly digital platform, faster claims processing, the introduction of specialized insurance products for emerging needs, an expanded network of over 200 agencies across Uganda, and access to Pride Global’s international expertise combined with local market understanding. A dedicated marketing and client experience team will also be established to further enhance customer satisfaction and education.

The Mirai brand embodies a philosophy centered on people, teamwork, agility, and a forward-looking approach to insurance. The long-standing promise of “Service Beyond Expectation” from FICO will be carried forward and strengthened under the new Mirai identity, supported by greater resources and a wider strategic vision.

As a member of the Uganda Insurers Association and now operating under the Pride Global umbrella, Mirai General Insurance reaffirms its commitment to being a reliable and customer-focused insurer, empowering individuals and businesses in Uganda to manage risk with confidence. This transformation signifies the beginning of an exciting new chapter built on a legacy of over 30 years, now energized by a revitalized brand poised to redefine insurance in Uganda and beyond.
