FULL LIST, PHOTOS: UPDF sends home 14 Generals in single shakeup

KAMPALA — The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) will send home 14 Generals in a new military shakeup that will also see upto 604 senior and junior officers retired.

A military spokesperson, Flavia Byekwaso said the retirement ceremony for Generals will be held at State House Entebbe while other officers will have theirs at places of attachment.

Byekwaso, also a military general said UPDF recognises retirees’ commitment, service, selflessness and dedication to offering security service to the country at a time where many shunned joining the liberation struggle in favour of maintaining the status quo.

“Because of their service, the country’s course of history has been over turned across all spectrum, from an almost total shutdown to a now robust and sound economy with guaranteed peace and stability in the entire country.”

“The UPDF family congratulates the retirees for successfully completing their active duty in the forces.”

This is one of biggest retirement of senior officers above the rank of brigadier in a single batch since 1986.

In 2018, UPDF retired 17 generals in which the former Coordinator of Intelligence Services Gen David Sejusa finally retired.

According to the army, the soldiers’ careers evolve into a number of stages, including recruitment, training and retraining, deployment and redeployment, appointments, transfers and placements, retirement and discharge and recall into service when necessary.
