
SOROTI, Uganda — The National Resistance Movement and the Forum for Democratic Change split key victories across the Teso subregion as the Electoral Commission finalized parliamentary results Friday.
In Soroti City, David Calvin Echodu, the NRM chairperson for eastern Uganda, won the Soroti City West seat. In Soroti City East, Moses Okia Attan of the FDC reclaimed his former seat, which was vacated by Herbert Edmund Ariko. Ariko successfully moved his candidacy to Gweri County, winning that seat on the NRM ticket.
FDC women maintained a strong presence in the region. Joan Acom Alobo, known locally as “Arrow Girl,” regained her seat as Soroti City Woman MP, while Anna Adeke Ebaju retained her position as Soroti District Woman MP.
The NRM held several key rural constituencies. In Soroti County, incumbent Patrick Aeku retained his seat, while Peter Edeku Edopu won in Dakabela County.
Kumi district saw the return of several incumbents. State Minister for Energy Sidoneous Opolot Okaasai retained the Kumi County seat. Silas Aogon and Christine Apolot, both running as independents, held their positions in Kumi Municipality and as Woman MP, respectively.
The most significant upset in the region occurred in Serere district, where independent candidate Esther Lucy Acom defeated State Minister for Fisheries Hellen Adoa for the Woman MP seat. In Kasilo County, NRM’s Peter Paul Emaju unseated long-serving legislator Elijah Okupa. Emmanuel Omoding retained the Serere County seat for the NRM, while Peter Ojiit unseated incumbent Fred Opolot in Pingire County.
In Bukedea, David Becham Okweere took the Bukedea County seat for the NRM. Patrick Opolot Isiagi returned to Parliament unopposed in Kachumbala County.
Ngora district voters introduced a new face, electing NRM’s Josephine Pedun as Woman MP. Juliet Achayo Lodou retained her Ngora County seat, and independent Abraham Isamat won in Kapir County.
In Katakwi, NRM newcomers Solomon Ossiya and Richard Ongorok won in Toroma and Usuk counties, respectively. State Minister Peter Ogwang retained his Ngariam County seat.
Kapelebyong voters returned Jacinta Atuto as Woman MP and elected former district chairperson Francis Akorikin to Parliament.
In Amuria, Samuel Ediau won Amuria County for the NRM. Gen. Jeje Odongo, running as an independent, retained his Orungo County seat, while Margret Etilu took the Woman MP seat for the NRM.
In Kalaki, NRM incumbents Maria Gorretti Ajilo and Dr. Kenneth Obote Ongalo both retained their respective seats as Woman MP and Kalaki County representative.
