KAMPALA, Uganda — Several Ugandan ministers lost their bids for re-election in the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries held Thursday.
Among those defeated in the July 17 vote were David Bahati, the state minister for Trade, Industry and Cooperatives (Industry), who represented Ndorwa West, and Peace Mutuuzo, the state minister for Gender, Labor and Social Development and Woman MP for Bunyangabu District Victoria Rusoke.
Other ministers who lost their NRM primary races include:
- Fred Bwino Kyakulaga — State Minister for Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (Agriculture) — Kiguku North
- Godfrey Kabbyanga — State Minister for ICT and National Guidance — Bukonzo West
- Jennifer Namuyangu — State Minister for Bunyoro Affairs — Kibuku District Woman MP
- Dr. Joyce Moriku Kaducu — State Minister for Primary Education — Moyo District Woman MP
- Victoria Rusoke Businge — State Minister of State for Local Government — Kabarole District Woman MP
- Rose Lilly Akello — State Minister for Ethics and Integrity — Karenga District Woman MP
- Fredrick Ngobi Gume — State Minister for Cooperatives — Bulamogi North West
- Musa Ecweru — Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees — Amuria County
