KAMPALA —General Katumba Wamala has been discharged from Medipal International Hospital. He has joined mourners at his Najeera-based home to pray for his daughter Brenda Nantongo Katumba who passed on Tuesday June 1.
The deceased will be laid to rest at their ancestral home in Mukono tomorrow, Thursday.
The former Uganda Army commander had earlier said his injuries were not alarming.
“My injuries aren’t alarming. I had surgery last evening, and one of the bullets was removed. However, because of how the other bullet affected my arteries, it was not removed, and the doctors will advise on the way forward,” Gen Katumba said in a statement released Wednesday morning.
Gunmen opened fire at a car carrying the minister in an attempted assassination on Tuesday, wounding the former army commander and killing his daughter Brenda Nantongo and driver Haruna Kayondo.
President Yoweri Museveni condemned the attack, blaming it on criminals, terrorists and “pigs who do not value life”. In a Twitter post, he said that authorities already had clues in the case, and the criminals responsible would be defeated.
Army spokeswoman Brigadier Flavia Byekwaso said a local resident was also shot and wounded in the incident and was in hospital.
