Over 150 amateur golfers teed off at the scenic par-72 Entebbe Club on Saturday, June 28th, for the 2025 edition of the annual Hima Captain’s Putter Golf Tournament.
The prestigious one-day event, sponsored by Hima Cement, brought together golfers from across the country in celebration of leadership and community in the sport. As a signature captain’s event, the tournament provides a platform for the club captain to host and unite golfers in a spirit of camaraderie and competition.
Among the distinguished participants were Uganda’s Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka and Kin Kariisa, CEO of Next Media Group, who battled through the heat to complete 18 challenging holes. The tournament was played under Tombstone format.
Entebbe Golf Club Captain Serwano Walusimbi expressed his appreciation for the continued support: “We are always grateful to Hima Cement for promoting and supporting this tournament and standing with me as captain. The Captain’s Putter is a celebration of the captain’s election and golf at the club — it’s a great tradition.”

As the sun set, the festivities shifted to the iconic 19th Hole Experience — an evening of entertainment, laughter, and connection.
Joan Kitawona, Brand and Communications Manager at Hima Cement Uganda, reaffirmed the company’s longstanding relationship with the club:
“We are proud to sponsor the Hima Captain’s Putter every year at Entebbe Golf Club. Our partnership has seen the development of key infrastructure, including the construction of tee boxes, and we’re currently in talks to complete the walkway from the entrance to Tee Box 1. We’re committed to supporting the growth of the sport and the club.”
She also explained the event’s alternating nature with the Chairman’s Cup: “Last year we supported the Chairman’s Cup, this year it’s the Captain’s Putter, and next year we may support either — but always with the aim of uniting the golfing community through this social game.”
The evening wrapped up with a nostalgic flair, featuring a soulful lineup of 90s hits by Ivuga band, creating a memorable close to an elegant day of sport and socializing.
Up next on the Entebbe Golf Club calendar is another Hima-Sponsored Clash of the Titans, scheduled for September, with both qualifiers and the grand finale set to take place at the Entebbe Golf Club.
