Gomba District Commission Members, charged with extortion and Soliciting Bribes for Jobs

Gomba–  State House Anti-Corruption Unit together with Criminal Investigations directive and Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions have arraigned 3 Senior District officials from Gomba District in Court over bribery charges.

The accused persons at Court on Friday.

These who have been charged by Gomba Grade one Magistrate Pauline Sabakaaki include; Lwanga Charles the District Inspector of Schools, Mugerwa John Bosco , the Chairperson of Gomba District Service Commission and Muwonge Michael the Secretary of the Commission.

These have been charged charges of Demanding Money with Menaces and Conspiracy to Commit a Felony. They have all pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Being that investigations in the matter are still under way, the trio have been been remanded till July 25, 2025.

State Prosecution led by Arthur Masaba, contends that between the months of February and November 2024 with intent to steal conspired and extorted money from different applicants who were required to pay bribes between Ugx 1 million and 20 million to be considered for jobs. Some of the victims eventually secured senior positions within the district.

Additionally, Mr. Charles Lwanga, Senior Inspector of Schools at Gomba District Local Government, is charged with extorting funds from various Head Teachers in the district by promising them improved postings and promotions.

The arrest of the accused, followed a presidential directive for the UNIT to investigate the greater Mpigi about the district service commission of butambala Mpigi and Gomba over selling jobs and extortion of money.
