Gulu RDC Maj. Santos Lapolo who banned NUP activities in Gulu dies

KAMPALA — Gulu Resident District Commissioner (RDC)- Maj. Santos Okot Lapolo is dead.

RDC was the head of Gulu district COVID-19 Taskforce.

Mr. Ojara Martin Mapenduzi the taskforce said Mr Santos who passed on from Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala succumbed to Covid-19.

“With deep sorrow, Gulu District COVID-19 Taskforce announces the untimely death of Maj. Santo Okot Lapolo, the Resident District Commissioner and Chairman- Gulu District COVID-19 Taskforce who passed on this morning from Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala,” Mr. Mapenduzi wrote.

He added: “Our faith and hope remain in the Lord for the Holy Bible reminds us in Romans 14:8: “For If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord”.

Maj. Santos Okot is widely famed for his declaration of persona non grata for the NUP party presidential candidate Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert aka Bobi Wine.

He hit the spotlight in 2019 when he ordered the DPC of Gulu central police station to disperse a People Power rally which had been convened at the central market.

In the ongoing general elections, Santo had appeared on local radio stations issuing threats and stern warnings to all locals who had overtly showed allegiance to Bobi Wine’s People Power movement.

At one point, he was quoted saying ‘there was no People Power’ in Acholi region.
