Luzira – Hearing of the bail application filed by Hon. Miria Matembe, the former Minister for Ethics and Integrity who is charged with sectarianism charge, is underway at Luzira Chief Magistrates Court.

Matembe who is being represented by Uganda Law Society Vice President Anthony Asiimwe alongside others, presented several grounds which she wants court to rely on to release her pending the hearing of her case.
Among the grounds is that, the offence is bailable by the same court, she is a responsible citizen, of advanced age, she needs urgent medical attention, she has substantial sureties and fixed place of abode within Court’s jurisdiction.
Among the sureties she has presented is, Hon. Lucy Akello – FDC, friend , Hon. Naome Kabasharira – NRM, aunt ,Advocate Primah Kwagala – friend and Activist Godber Tumushabe – a friend
Court is still proceeding with the application before Grade One Magistrate Sheilah Gloria Atim.
Prosecution contends that in the month of June 2026 in Nakawa Division, Kampala District through DK Television, Matembe uttered statements, to wit, that all tax payers money is being spent on Banyankore Women Ministers which statements are likely to promote hostility, hatred or ill will against members of Banyankore tribe.
