KAMPALA — First Lady and Minister for Education and Sports Janet Museveni released the 2025 Primary Leaving Examinations results Friday at State House Nakasero, with the Uganda National Examinations Board providing a mobile SMS service for instant access to scores.
To check results on a mobile phone, users on the MTN and Airtel networks should follow these steps:
- Open the messaging application on your phone.
- Type PLE followed by a space and then the candidate’s full index number (e.g., PLE 003301/368).
- Send the message to 6600.
Each SMS is charged 500 Ugandan shillings. UNEB officials advise users to ensure they have sufficient airtime before sending the request. While the SMS service provides results for individual candidates, school heads are expected to download the full result sheets through the UNEB e-registration portal.
The 2025 PLE series saw a 2.5 percent increase in candidates, with 818,010 students registered compared to 797,444 the previous year. The examinations were administered across 16,140 centers. Registration data shows female candidates continue to outpace males, with 428,398 girls and 389,589 boys sitting for the exams.
A majority of the candidates, 522,039 or 64 percent, were funded through the Universal Primary Education program, while 295,846 learners were privately sponsored. The results also included 61 inmates from Upper Prison School Luzira, consisting of 54 men and seven women.
The board noted that hard copies of the results will not be available at the UNEB offices immediately. District, municipal, and city inspectors of schools will be notified at a later date on when to collect physical copies for their respective areas.
The 2025 release comes one week later than the previous year’s results, which were announced Jan. 23. Successful candidates are scheduled to report for Senior One on Feb. 16.
This is a developing story. More details will be provided as they become available.
