KAMPALA, Uganda — Johnnie Walker used the eve of Uganda’s Independence Day to officially launch its newest variant, Johnnie Walker Blonde, headlining the return of the popular “Strictly Soul” R&B party on Wednesday night at Mestil Hotel.
The event, returning after a brief break, served as the massive African R&B party’s “comeback,” with the iconic whisky brand stepping in as the beverage partner. The primary focus of the night was the introduction of the new spirit, a “playful” whisky crafted specifically for mixing into vibrant cocktails.
Nicknamed “Sunshine in a bottle,” Johnnie Walker Blonde is designed for a bright and lively feel, best enjoyed simply mixed with lemonade. The spirit, which offers hints of sweet vanilla, apple, and caramel, was the cornerstone of the night’s exceptional cocktail menu, setting a vibrant and carefree mood that flowed directly onto the dance floor.
Christine Kyokunda, the Johnnie Walker Brand Manager, explained why the R&B event was the perfect platform for the debut. “Strictly Soul is Africa’s biggest R&B party. It takes guests on a flavourful musical journey, blending old-school hits with the new, and that’s the exact kind of energy that comes with Blonde: fresh, bright, and made for good times,” Kyokunda said.
Guests were treated to a nostalgic musical journey spanning 90s R&B classics to modern soul hits. The DJ lineup included Jerry Mehn, Heydez, and Jefas, with resident DJ Akio closing out the night. A surprise moment featured the debut of homegrown talent with Lilian Mbabazi’s “Ddagala” sealing the celebrations.
