Formerly an ordinary member of the SEAJAA Executive Committee, Dr. Bigirimana replaces Prof. Elisante Ole Gabriel, Chief Court Administrator of Tanzania.

Ms. Beaulah Kgakgamatso Mguni, Chief Registrar of Botswana’s High Court, retained her position as SEAJAA’s Vice Chairperson, while Mr. Benhardt Kukuri, Executive Director of the Judiciary of Namibia, continues as Secretary-General. The representative from Malawi also maintained the role of Treasury General. Angola has joined the Executive Committee as a new ordinary member.

In his acceptance remarks, Dr. Bigirimana expressed his passion for serving the Judiciary of Uganda. He pledged to extend this commitment to ensure that the Judiciaries of member States also thrive by sharing experiences and supporting one another.

This is a plus for Uganda as it coincides with the Southern and Eastern Africa Chief Justices’ Forum (SEACJF) – 2024.

SEACJF, hosted by Uganda’s Judiciary, is running from 30th September to 5th October, 2024, at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala.

Background

The Southern and Eastern Africa Judicial Administration Association (SEAJAA), established in 2017, supports Judiciaries across Southern and Eastern Africa.

The Association, now with 14 member countries, focuses on sharing best practices, fostering cooperation on common concerns, and promoting the rule of law, democracy, and judicial independence.

It also works to strengthen the institutions responsible for judicial administration in its member countries.

Member countries of the Association include Kenya, Eswatini, Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Tanzania, Seychelles, Zambia, Zanzibar, Zimbabwe, and Uganda.
