KAMPALA – The Chief Registrar of the Judiciary, Her Worship Agnes Alum, has called for strengthened coordination, communication and teamwork among officers who directly support the Judiciary’s Top Management, emphasizing that effective collaboration is critical to efficient service delivery and institutional success.
Speaking during a meeting held in her chambers at the Judiciary Headquarters on Friday, HW Alum said the officers play a pivotal role in enabling the leadership of the Judiciary to effectively discharge its mandate.
The meeting brought together the Chief Registrar, Private Legal Secretaries to the Chief Justice, Deputy Chief Justice, Principal Judge and Chief Registrar, Personal Assistants to Top Management, as well as the leadership of the Registry of Communications and Public Relations.
Describing the engagement as an opportunity to formally interact with the team and build stronger working relationships, HW Alum said the officers would work closely together in advancing the Judiciary’s strategic goals.
“This is my first meeting with you. While it is largely intended as a meet-and-greet session, it is also an opportunity for us to get to know one another because we shall be working together very closely,” she said.
The Chief Registrar commended the officers for their often unseen but indispensable contribution to the smooth functioning of the institution.
“You are the team that works behind the scenes to ensure that your principals succeed. You keep this institution moving and enable the leaders of the Judiciary to effectively perform their duties. I thank you for your resilience, dedication and commitment,” she noted.
Acknowledging that she is assuming a new role, HW Alum said she was ready to learn from the experience and institutional knowledge of the team.
“This is a new office and a new chapter for me. There is a lot to learn, but I am ready to learn, relearn and move forward with the team. We shall learn as we run because the work before us requires urgency, commitment and teamwork,” she added.
She stressed the need to harmonize activities and improve information sharing across support teams, noting that better coordination would ensure all relevant offices remain informed about the official engagements of the Judiciary’s leadership.
Private Legal Secretary to the Chief Registrar, HW Patricia Amoko, described support staff as the “minute and second hands of the institution’s clock,” highlighting their critical role in the day-to-day operations of the Judiciary.
She noted that the nature of their work demands resilience, flexibility and professionalism, often requiring officers to work beyond normal hours to ensure the successful execution of Top Management activities.
During the interactive session, participants welcomed the Chief Registrar’s commitment to inclusiveness and expressed appreciation for her recognition of the important support role they play within the Judiciary.
The officers unanimously endorsed a proposal for weekly virtual coordination meetings, saying regular engagements would enhance information sharing, minimize scheduling conflicts and strengthen collaboration among the various offices.
HW Faisal Mulalira pledged to contribute positively to the team, expressing his commitment to learning from colleagues and supporting the success of the office.
“I am ready to learn from the wealth of experience around this table and to contribute my part in ensuring that we work as one team for the good of the institution,” he said.
The meeting also highlighted concerns regarding transport facilitation, with several Private Legal Secretaries and Personal Assistants noting the lack of official vehicles to effectively carry out official assignments.
The engagement forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen internal coordination and enhance the efficiency of support structures that facilitate the work of the Judiciary’s leadership.
