KARAMOJA FLOODING: Multiple Roads Closed, Commuters Urged to Exercise Caution

Road users are advised to utilize alternative routes until the situation is resolved.

Uganda – Heavy flooding in the Karamoja sub-region has left several key roads impassable, causing disruptions to transportation and daily life in the area.

According to the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA), the Karita-Alakas-Amudat road has been cut off at Dindinga, Km 39, while the Apeitolim-Iriiri road is impassable at Losagari, Km 19. The Matany-Lokopo-Turtuko road has also been submerged at Turtuko, Km 25.

UNRA has advised motorists to use alternative routes, including Amudat-Alakas-Konyau-Asilong to Karita, and Iriiri-Nadunget-Ariamoi-LopeiLokicher-Turtuko-Apeitolim for the other two affected roads.

The flooding has been caused by heavy rainfall in the region, which has also led to other challenges such as landslides and bridge damage.

UNRA has appealed to road users to exercise caution and avoid using flooded road sections during this period. The authority is working to restore the roads to normalcy as soon as possible.

In the meantime, residents and travelers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and follow the designated alternative routes to ensure their safety.
