KAMPALA — The highly publicized trial of Molly Katanga, accused of murdering her husband Henry Katanga, has hit another snag. Proceedings were expected to resume today at Kampala’s High Court, but both parties were informed of a further delay until next Tuesday, November 26. The reason for the delay is Presiding Judge Isaac Muwata’s attendance at an unnamed training session.
Molly Katanga, her two daughters, Patricia Kakwanzi and Martha Nkwanzi, their family’s domestic servant George Amanyire, and nurse Charles Otai are jointly charged with the murder. They have all denied the charges. Henry Katanga was found dead at their Mbuya family home on November 2 last year.
The prosecution is currently presenting its 10th witness, AIP Enock Kanene, a cybercrime analyst. However, Kanene’s testimony is already under dispute. The defense had requested access to raw data, including digital evidence, ahead of Kanene’s testimony, citing the need for full disclosure of evidence.
Justice Muwata ordered the Director of Public Prosecutions to provide all raw data, including CCTV footage and mobile phone records. “The principle of a fair trial must be upheld,” Justice Muwata emphasized. The defense plans to challenge the prosecution’s evidence using the provided data.
Molly Katanga has been attending the hearing via video link from Luzira prison as she recovers from severe injuries sustained during the incident that left her husband dead and her critically injured.
