The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has applauded the Bishop of Namirembe, Moses Banja, and his wife, Canon Prof. Olivia Nassaka Banja, for being a shining example of a strong and faithful marriage in Uganda.
Mayiga noted that many leaders often fail to practice what they preach, which undermines the effectiveness of their messages and limits positive impact in society.
He commended Bishop Banja and his wife for living out the values they promote, describing their marriage as a model worth emulating.
The Katikkiro made the remarks during celebrations marking 25 years of holy matrimony for Bishop Banja and his wife.
The event was held at St. Paul’s Cathedral Namirembe, where the couple renewed their marriage vows in a ceremony led by the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu.
In his sermon, Archbishop Kaziimba emphasized that the couple has every reason to celebrate their union, citing their achievements and commitment throughout their marriage journey.
The ceremony attracted several high-profile dignitaries, including the Nnaabagereka of Buganda, Sylvia Nagginda, the Second Deputy Katikkiro, Owek. Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa, the Speaker of the Buganda Lukiiko, Owek. Patrick Luwaga Mugumbule and Vice President Jessica Alupo, who represented President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
In her message, Vice President Alupo congratulated the couple upon reaching the milestone and presented them with a cash gift of UGX 50 million on behalf of the President.
The celebrations were marked by joy and gratitude, as Bishop Banja and his wife reaffirmed their vows, inspiring many couples to uphold commitment, faith, and unity in marriage.
