Lango Residents petition President Museveni over harrasment

The Resident City Commissioner (RCC) for Lira City, Egole Lawrence Emmy has intervened in the affairs of Yahweh Pentecostal Christians hailing from all districts Lango subregion complaining about being harassed.

These handed over to the RCC a letter which they requested him to submit to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni so that he can intervene in the matter which they accuse members from security agencies of harassing them.

For the past few weeks, stories have been all over various media platforms as some of the believers from Yahweh Pentecostal churches from Lango have been accusing government leaders and security forces of colluding with their fellow Pentecostal Assemblies of God in the dispute over church ownership and the land matter pending before the court.

On handing over the petition to the RCC, Bishop Joel Mukalu, the head of Yahweh Pentecostal Mission noted that his people are not happy with some of their Members of Parliament who have kept quiet as people are being oppressed.

“I want to inform Mr. RCC, that if all goes as it is of now, in 2026 the votes NRM is most likely to get few votes from this compared to those it used to get in the previous elections.”

Upon receiving their petition, the RCC promised to convey their message to President Museveni as soon as possible for further action.

“Don’t expect any response from me (RCC) because you have written to the president of Uganda. I would like to thank you for being peace-loving citizens of Uganda. Above all, you’re the people who connect us directly to God through prayers.”

He therefore asked the Christians to remain calm in the process of waiting for the president’s response because he is a person who listens to everyone’s concerns regardless of their status.

However, as the meeting was still going on at the RCC’s office, attended by Lira city DPC Joseph Bakaleke among others , a group of other Yahweh believers passed by heading to the Church which prompted police to disperse them using tear gas.

After this incident, the DPC together with the RCC and his Deputies rushed to the church to ensure that they calm the situation before it turns worse.

At the Church, Bishop Mukalu, the head of Yahweh Pentecostal Mission reported to the RCC the challenges they face amidst the condemnation on top of being beaten, which prompted the DPC to ask them to remain calm since everything was under control.
