KAMPALA —Makerere University Dean of Students Winifred Kabumbuli has warned that candidates in Makerere Guild Elections could get disqualified if they are found breaking coronavirus containment protocols set by the university.

In a notice shared to this website, Kabumbuli says the university management had noticed a serious breach of Covid-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) during the ongoing guild elections activities and warned that violators will be sanctioned.

“The breach is characterised by crowding, processions and noise by aspiring candidates and their supporters,” the notice reads in part.

“This kind of behaviour contravenes the Makerere University guidelines for conducting a blend of electronic and physical and Senior Common Room (SCR) elections during the period of the Covid-19 pandemic which stipulates that all campaigns will be virtual (online) because of the covid-19 situation”, it adds.

Whereas President Museveni partially lifted a ban on public gatherings —allowing upto 200 people to gather, Makerere University leadership says that anyone found involved in coordinating gatherings will be disqualified from the race.
