
KAMPALA, Uganda — Makerere University has opened applications for the position of second deputy vice chancellor, a high-level role tasked with overseeing the institution’s financial governance and administrative leadership.
The university announced the vacancy Monday, noting the position falls under the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act. The successful candidate will report to the vice chancellor and manage the university’s planning, development and fiscal resources.
Candidates must be Ugandan citizens between ages 40 and 65 at the time of application. Academic requirements include a doctorate and the rank of associate or full professor at an institution comparable to Makerere.
The role carries significant administrative weight. Applicants must demonstrate at least five years of senior leadership experience at the level of a school dean or higher. This includes a proven record of managing budgets exceeding 500 million Ugandan shillings and experience in resource mobilization and grant securing.
The university specified that the appointee will oversee the preparation of recurrent and capital budgets, monitor accounting procedures and manage university assets and human resources. Experience in digital transformation and the integration of ICT solutions into financial systems is also a key requirement.
The position offers a five-year term with the possibility of a single reappointment. Remuneration will follow Makerere University’s standard terms of service.
Applicants must submit a signed letter of application, a vision statement, a curriculum vitae and three letters of recommendation. Documentation must also include certified academic transcripts, copies of publications and clearance from the Inspector General of Government or an equivalent body.
Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13. Both physical submissions to the Senate Building and electronic applications via email are being accepted.
