
KAMPALA, Uganda — Makerere University has scheduled the pre-entry examination for admission to the Bachelor of Laws for the 2026-2027 academic year for April 18.
The three-hour assessment will run from 9 a.m. to noon. Passing the examination is a mandatory requirement for all individuals seeking to join the law program, regardless of their entry category.
Eligibility and Requirements
The Office of the Academic Registrar has outlined specific criteria for various groups of applicants:

A-Level Leavers: Applicants must have at least five passes at O-Level and a minimum of 13 points for males or 12 points for females at A-Level. Those who completed A-Level before 2013 must have 15 points for males and 14 points for females.

Diploma Holders: Candidates must possess at least a second-class or credit diploma from a recognized institution. Certified copies of transcripts must be attached to the application.

Degree Holders: Graduates in any discipline from a chartered university are eligible but are not qualified for government sponsorship.

Mature Age Applicants: Candidates must have passed the university’s mature age entry examinations held in December 2024 or December 2025.
Application Process and Fees
Applications are being conducted online at see.mak.ac.ug. The deadline for submission is April 12.
Ugandan, East African and refugee applicants are required to pay a non-refundable fee of 110,000 Ugandan shillings. International applicants must pay $75 or its equivalent. Payments should be made through the Uganda Revenue Authority system using a generated payment reference number.
Candidates must attach scanned PDF copies of original academic documents, a valid identification card and a recent color passport-sized photograph with a white background.
Examination Details and Regulations
The pre-entry examination will test reading and comprehension, language skills, numerical skills and logic, general knowledge and analytical writing. Applicants with visual impairments are advised to bring laptops installed with braille software and report to the examination coordination venue at the COCIS block.
The university issued a strict warning against academic fraud. Any cases of impersonation or falsification of documents will lead to automatic cancellation of results and possible prosecution. Additionally, smart gadgets, including mobile phones and programmable calculators, are strictly prohibited in the examination rooms.
University officials clarified that there is no official coaching for the examination and cautioned students against paying for unauthorized preparation materials or briefings.
