RUBANDA — A man brutally burnt his entire family to ashes—killing his wife and three children, the police said on Sunday morning.
Kigezi Region Police Spokesman Elly Maate said the incident happened on Saturday night at around 22:30 in Habutobere Village, Butare Parish, Muko Sub County in Rubanda District.
Maate says that the man identified as Armstrong Vian aged 45 bought petrol, locked his wife and thee children in the house, set it on fire— burning them beyond recogonition before he fled the area.
Maate identified the deceased as 43 year old Muheki Lovinah the wife to Armstrong, his 17 old son only identified as Edwin, his younger brother named Westlife aged 15 and younger sister Akira of 5 years.
Maate told reporters that it is believed a long standing family wrangle led Armstrong to kill his family.
“It’s alleged that they had family wrangles for long that caused the man to marry a second wife, Maate said.
He added that Armstrong was on Saturday evening sighted at fuel station buying petrol.
[He] reached home locked them inside and that one of the immediate neighbor so that doesn’t come out and help them,” Maate told UgStandard.
Maate said that the suspect also locked a neighbor’s house to ensure that they don’t come out to rescue the victims in his house.
By the time the Police arrived, the fire had consumed the entire house and the lives of the four could not be saved.
Maate said that the Police have initiated investigations into the matter and the case was registered at Muko Police Station under reference number SD 15/12/06/2021 to help in further investigation.
