KAMPALA– Benedicto Kiwanuka Galiko, one of the Democratic Party (DP) members advocating for good governance in Uganda’s oldest Political Party has faulted the Electoral Commission for issuing Hon. Nobert Mao with for Nomination Papers to contest in the fourth coming general elections, well knowing that there are pending cases in court over his leadership.

On addressing journalists in Kampala, Galiko pointed out the High Court ruling of Justice Philip Odoki which clarified that Democratic Party doesn’t have legally elected leadership to organize NEC elections.
“We sent a copy of the same ruling to Electoral Commission and it’s clear that the current leadership has cases before court of Appeal which were filed by myself. Early this year , justice Kiryabwire (justice of Appeal) promised that they will be delivering one of the judgements on notice, so it’s not right to nominate some body whose stay in office is being challenged by law.”
He advised the Chairperson of Electoral Commission, Justice Simon Byabakama, before nominating any body from a political party with misunderstandings/ cases, to first prove that everything has been resolved amicably with proof to that.
“Mr. Kennedy Mutenyo, DP’s Electoral Commission Chairperson, recently advised people who brought piglets at Democratic Party headquarters to petition court first, but I would advise him that all members of Democratic Party have a right to use any legal means to bring back their party in order. I for one I have been in court and still in court over the same issues, so let those with other avenues also try their best.”
Galiko further asked himself, how Mao, the serving cabinet Minister will be running against President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni his boss even before resigning.
At the beginning of this week, Gerald Siranda , the Secretary General of Democratic Party, picked Nomination forms from Electoral Commission on behalf of Nobert Mao and revealed that he was going to stand again for presidency for the second time.
