KAMPALA, Uganda — The Mengo establishment expressed concern Tuesday over a circulating map of Uganda that omits Buganda Kingdom, calling it a deliberate act aimed at distorting history.

Israel Kazibwe Kitooke, the kingdom’s minister for communication, said in a statement that this incident is not isolated. A similar case occurred in 2018 when the Uganda Bureau of Statistics released a map that failed to acknowledge Buganda.

Kazibwe said Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, the king of Buganda, strongly condemned the omission during his 63rd birthday celebrations in 2018.

The kingdom’s leadership previously spoke out against similar actions, Kazibwe said. The kingdom recently discovered another map circulating on social media that excludes Buganda while recognizing other kingdoms.

Kazibwe described such actions as intentional attempts to divert Buganda from its objectives.

“I want to assure you that no one can erase our history,” Kazibwe said. “Buganda is a rock — those who have attempted to tamper with it in the past have faced unexplainable consequences.”

The kingdom’s leadership called upon its subjects to remain united and focused, emphasizing that Buganda’s historical significance and cultural identity remain intact despite external attempts to undermine it.
