KAMPALA– Hon. David Bahati, the State Minister for Finance, has ditched his decision of Contesting as an Independent candidate for Ndorwa West Parliamentary seat, having lost in National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) Party Primaries.

In the recent primaries, Bahati lost to 37 year old Eliab Naturinda, being dissatisfied with the outcomes, he announced that he will Contesting as an independent.
“After deep reflection and wide consultations with the President H. E Yoweri Kaguta T. Museveni today at the sidelines of the 27th National Prayer Breakfast, Distinguished party leaders, Constituency supporters and well-wishers, I wish to make the following official statement regarding my political position ahead of the 2026 General Elections.” Reads part of Bahati’s press statement released on Wednesday 8th October.
He pointed out , that from that meeting, he has decided to make up his mind and he will not be standing as an independent. “This decision comes from a deep sense of responsibility to preserve the unity and stability of the National Resistance Movement party ( NRM) and to ensure peace and harmony within the district.”
“I take great pride in the service I have rendered to the people of Uganda, Kigezi, Kabale and Ndorwa West in particular since May 2006. I worked with all dedication, energy and sincerity to improve family livelihoods, Sports and Talents ( Bahati cup tournament) and promote development but importantly raise the voice of our people on the floor of Parliament.”
In his communication , last month, NRM Secretary General Richard Tadwong ordered all Part officials who had failed to accept results of Party Primaries and decided to come as an independent candidates, to hand over the offices they occupy to their deputies.
David Bahati, is the current NRM party chairman for Kabale district.
